Ayurveda

Yoga and Ayurveda are two interrelated branches of the same great tree of Vedic knowledge that encompasses all human life and the entire universe. Yoga and Ayurveda are two distinct sciences. Yet, they share the same Vedic roots. Both the practice of Yoga and Ayurveda go hand in hand as they both stem from the same Vedic system of wellness that originated thousands of years ago. Born from the same Vedic scriptures they have the same underlying principles and belief that leads to holistic wellbeing of the individual. While Yoga deals with the harmonizing of mind, body and soul, Ayurveda takes care of the person's physical and mental wellbeing through control on diet and lifestyle. Both originate as part of a greater system of Vedic knowledge.

Both , Yoga and Ayurveda are based upon the principles of trigunas (sattva, rajas and tamas) and the panchamahabuthas (earth, air, fire, water, space). Yoga and Ayurveda also encompass an understanding of how the body works (Dosha-Dhatu-Mala/ humor-tissue-waste material theory) and the effect that food and medicines have on the body (Rasa-Veerya-Vipaka ie taste-energy-post digestive effect concept).

Both of these sciences have eight branches: Ashtanga Yoga and Ashtanga Ayurveda. The two have a common understanding of health; that of the Body being dependent on the health and balance of the Mind.

In treatment, both Yoga and Ayurveda advocate for the regular practice of pranayama and meditation as well as the use of herbs, body purification procedures, food and chanting of mantras for physical and mental health.

In Yoga, the body purification procedures have been explained as 'Shatkriyas' ; whereas in Ayurveda they are known as 'Panchakarma'. Both recognize that keeping the body healthy is vital for fulfilling the four aims of life: dharma (duty), artha (wealth), kama (desire), and moksha (liberation).

We invite you to experience the benefits of the most ancient integrated system of medicine. Ayurveda means 'knowledge of life'...
